Joe D'Urso Bio (Short Form)

Joe D'Urso has released 17 records since 1991, 15 with his longtime backing band Stone Caravan. Joe's most recent release was 2023's "Thurman". The newest release features nine original D'Urso songs along with odes by Bob Seger and Trond Svendson. Joe has performed in 30 countries over the years and along with his band Stone Caravan - an Americana, Jersey Shore, Rock & Roll band - they have created a worldwide grassroots network of fans. Joe's catalog of music is released on his own label, SCR in association with Bob Benjamin's (founder of Light of Day Foundation) Schoolhouse Records.

D'Urso remains true to an ideal inspired by the late Harry Chapin: that it is essential to help the less fortunate. He currently sits on the board of directors for The Light of Day Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for Parkinson's disease research. Joe served on the board of WhyHunger and is a founding member of Artists Against Hunger and Poverty. In his home area of Rockland and Bergen counties (NY/NJ), Joe sits on the board of People to People Food Pantry and the Dan Sullivan Foundation, which raises money for college scholarships and folks who have experienced medical hardships.

Joe is also the founder/owner of the Rockland-Bergen Music Festival (RBMFestival.com) which takes place every June on the borders of New York and New Jersey and is a minority owner of the legendary C.B.G.B.

Quotes

"I enjoyed the unusual format for the album. It allows a diversity of types of songs to be presented with an explanation of the artist's view on the mood intended. Joe is one of the most original and versatile of the current artists writing music based in good, old-fashioned rock and roll, but adding new, innovative lyrics and melodies. I love anything that keeps rock alive and yet adds a fresh twist to the sound, which is what he does." - Karen DeMasters, New York Times

"Joe brings to his life and music the magic combination of passion and purpose. We at World Hunger Year are proud to count him among our most valued friends! Keep on rocking Joe, and thank you!" - Jen Chapin, Singer-Songwriter and Chair of World Hunger Year Board of Directors

"Joe D'Urso and Stone Caravan play American backyard gasoline rock and roll." - Willie Nile, Singer-songwriter

"Joe D'Urso's music is passionate, vibrant and filled with great stories." - Bill Ayres, co-founder and executive director of World Hunger Year

"Joe D'Urso has the look of a man of considerable physical strength. The aura of strength is matched by his stage presence. He has massive charisma, even greater talent, sings like an angel and writes songs like a demon. If ever a man deserved to be a massive star, it is Joe." - Gary Price, Producer, BBC Radio Wales

"I am so proud of Joe D'Urso. I've been fortunate to witness his artistry develop over the last few years, from an OK player and singer-songwriter to a wonderful, first-class performer. His songs are memorable, some because they're poignant (Ballad of Townes Van Zandt and Hawkeye Pierce, and Glow), and some are not only fun to sing along with, but good old rock and roll (Rock and Roll Call.)" - Sue Leventhal, Director, Artists Against Hunger and Poverty (World Hunger Year)

"The latest CD, "rock and roll station," is as good, if not better, than anything else you will ever hear." - Sherry L. Shaulis, Dominion Post (Morgantown, W.Va.)

"'rock and roll station' - five stars out of six! The last romantic rock and roll renegade." - Johnny Anderson, Drammens Tidende (Drammen, Norway)

"The New York-based roots rock band began rollicking in the early '90s and their raw raucous style is keenly similar to the likes of fellow American rockers John Mellencamp, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. D'Urso … [is] a passionate songwriter and an earnest performer with a deep love for making music." - MacKenzie Wilson, AMG All Music Guide

"This band generates about as much power in concert as a small nuke plant, energizing audiences to dance, thawing even the most frozen feet." - Ray Weiss, Gannett Newspapers USA

"'rock and roll call'... a great new ode to rock and roll from Joe D'Urso." - Vin Scelsa, Live at Lunch/Vin Scelsa's Idiot's Delight (New York City)

"A rootsy band with a real Americana flavor, prides itself on straight-ahead melodies, honest lyrics and their specialty, bring-the-house-down-live-shows!" - BMI News

"Like much American poetry of the second half of the 20th century, D'Urso's lyrics avoid a poetic feel, leaning towards a conversational, storytelling style. While D'Urso claims such diverse influences as Harry Chapin and Leonard Cohen, I hear in his lyrics more of Springsteen or Bob Seger. In fact, "Leonard Cohen" sounds as though the words and music might have been written by Seger in another era. Whatever the influences, these lyrics stand up well." - Bob MacKenzie, Sound Bytes (Kingston, Canada)

"An emotional rocker who wears his heart on his sleeve." - Martin Chamberlain, The Mirror (Queenstown, New Zealand)

"Joe not only proved that he is a great live performer but also a great storyteller between the songs! The ballads are heartbreaking and the rockers are very strongly sung. Amazing! Really amazing!!!" - Philipp Nyffenegger, Drive All Night Magazine (Zurich, Switzerland)

"The album, and Joe's song writing, is wonderfully faithful to a basic human paradox. While many of his songs are reflective, melancholy and deal with themes of lost loves and good times past, they are each infused with a hopeful spirit and sincere desire to learn from past mistakes ... He also rocks. Hard." - Matt Mrowicki, chorusandverse.com
