Lyrics and Chords

Down Here By The River

Brass Ring

(Joe D'Urso)
Not sure where this song came from. Lyrically I have a good idea but musically this is out of left field for the band. I grew up in a town where the great Tito Puente lived. We once rode an elevator together with my friend Bob Garcia and the great Celia Cruz. Maybe some of it rubbed off...

Everybody trying to get to the top of the hill
Some get there on just strength and will
Some fall short but still have a good song to sing
Cause not everybody can wear the brass ring

Some people work, sweat and toil
Get up every morning, seed the earth work the soil
Some see their dreams soar become kings
But not everybody can wear the brass ring

I've always like silver, platinum and gold
Enjoyed all the stories I've been told
On the shoulders of others I found my wings
I've come to love life without the brass ring

So make your peace and have your say
Walk tall, walk straight enjoy your living days
Find a song to sing and sing it like a king
Wear it proud now, like a brass ring
