It's common for musicians in New Jersey to donate their time and perform at benefit concerts for good causes, but there's nothing like the annual Light of Day concerts. What began as a birthday party to celebrate the 40th birthday of Bob Benjamin, who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, has turned into a worldwide movement to raise money to help find a cure. In addition to raising millions of dollars, Light of Day has become its own music community, spreading the sounds of Jersey Shore across the globe. New Jersey Stage spoke via email with Joe D'Urso, one of the founders of the Light of Day Foundation, while he was on tour with Light of Day in England.

I hope this email finds each and everyone of you doing well and I am sure you are like me wondering where the heck is Spring??!!! Well, if the weather folks are right (ahem), by the time you will be reading this, especially those of you in the Northeast, you will be enjoying Spring like temperatures for the first time and this time I think they will stay! :)

An event that started as a birthday party is now celebrating an anniversary of its own.

The Light of Day Foundation's Winterfest main event is going on in Asbury Park, New Jersey Saturday. CBS2's Diane Macedo spoke with Joe D'Urso, who is on the board of directors for Light of Day, about the fundraising event for Parkinson’s disease research and awareness.

Watch this video for the full interview and a preview performance.

Light of Day was founded by D'Urso's music manager, Bob Benjamin, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's 17 years ago. The foundation is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

Many, many thanks to everyone who came out this past weekend and supported both WhyHunger concerts in Park Ridge and Ringwood, New Jersey. Lots of funds and food raised and I can't thank folks enough who came out this weekend, had a good time and were moved to "do something". :)
"Now if a man tried / To take his time on Earth
And prove before he died / What one man's life could be worth
Well I wonder what would happen to this world"
