Running Time - 71:59
Recorded onto Mini Disc from Live Microphone on Sound Board
Transferred and Mastered to Compact Disc by John Noll
Thoughts on the Show:
This was our first time performing in Spain and we had always heard great things about
the Spanish audience and this audience certainly lived up to it's reputation. This was the CD release party/show
for the "Light of Day" CD which in Spain was a 3 CD release with the third CD consisting of
only Spanish artists. We were asked to headline the evening and performed after a bunch of great Spanish
bands. I'll always remember the backstage good vibes, the singalongs and The Prince of Spain being in the
audience with a full entourage. The audience was with us right from the start and stayed there throughout
the whole show and were loud! The encore had about 20 people on stage as all the artists joined us for
a great ending. |

UK Night in Jersey
Toms River, New Jersey
September 17, 1999
Running Time - 71:16
Recorded to DAT by Brian Higgins
Transferred and Mastered to Compact Disc by John Noll
Thoughts on the Show:
It was the day after Hurricane Floyd had hit the East Coast of the
States and we were asked to come down to Christophers in Toms River, NJ
to try and cheer up a bunch of unhappy Brits. They had flown across the
Big Pond to see Bruce in Philadelphia to only get cancelled because of
the powerful storm. There is an old saying in life, "one man's loss is
another man's gain". This saying couldn't have been any truer for us as
it was this evening that started my relationship with the UK audience.
It was this show that has lead to over 100 UK performances since and
hopefully will continue to grow. In retrospect, I remember the audience
being louder and more drunk, but like all good things, memories tend to
enhance. |

The Stone Pony
Asbury Park, New Jersey
July 16, 2003
Running Time: 72:47
Recorded to DAT by Brian Higgins
Transferred and Mastered to Compact
Disc by John Noll
Thoughts on the Show:
A hot July night down at the Jersey Shore and we were sharing a bill
with Boccigalupe and The Bad Boys and The Danny White Band. It was a
Wednesday and there were a few hundred people out that night with a good
portion of the crowd being from a group called "Badlands" that had flown
to the States. I had performed a few solo acoustic songs earlier in the
day for them at The Saint in Asbury Park but this show was the full rock
and roll band at this great legendary venue. Many in the crowd had seen
the band overseas but this was the first time seeing them on their "home
turf". I remember being drenched at the end and thinking this was
exactly what I wanted to be doing when I was 15 years old, rocking out
at The Stone Pony. |

WHY Hungerthon Show
The Stone Pony
Asbury Park, NJ
November 22, 2003
Running Time: 52:11
Recorded by Dave McLellan
Board and live mixed recording
Transferred and Mastered to Compact Disc by John Noll
Thoughts on the Show:
This was the second WHY Hungerthon show we had thrown at The Stone Pony.
The first one was in 2001 and we were back with a great lineup for the
2003 show. One of the great traditions that has been carried over from
the early days of the Asbury scene is the benefit concert. Everyone I
asked to be part of this bill said yes right away and no one was looking
for a cent. Everyone on the bill played for the right reasons as they
knew whatever money we raised would help our friends at World Hunger
Year as well as helping collect food for the Monmouth County Food Bank.
It's nights like this that makes me proud to be part of a long line of
New Jersey musicians who always answer the door when the bell is rung
and someone needs help. |

Grinning Across The UK/Ireland
Various Cities
November 2001
Running Time - 50:02
Recorded on DAT from Soundboards
Transferred and Mastered by John Noll
Thoughts on the Show:
This tour was my 4th solo tour in the UK during a 10 month period in
2001. The first was a small one on my own in February which was followed
by two support tours with Southside Johnny in June and October and then
this tour with the great Nils Lofgren and his band in November. Nils'
tour was to be "an evening with" but he was kind enough to allow me to
support him in nine cities in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and
Ireland. It was less than two months after September 11th and I remember
the outpouring of kindness from many people at these shows. It was hard
to start smiling again, but the former leader of Grin, one time member
of Crazy Horse and current E Streeter, made it easier for me and others
with his grace and talent. I learned as much on this tour from watching
Nils off stage as I did from watching him on stage. A true gentleman. |

Norwegian Radio
Special / Interview - Oslo,Norway
Aired on February 21, 1998
Running Time - 59:12
Recorded by Hysj Hysj - Kanal Bla
Transferred and Mastered by John Noll
Thoughts on the Show:
This is an interview I did a few years back while I was in Norway
supporting the "Mirrors, Shoestrings & Credit Cards" CD. I did the
interview and then the station mixed in studio cuts from "MS&CC" as well
as some live songs that I performed for them. I felt this was a good
choice to present as I want the Bootleg Series to encompass not just
live shows but live moments that happen on the road. Visiting radio
stations and doing interviews is something I enjoy especially when I
meet a good interviewer. I remember being surprised that he knew so much
about the music. Thanks to Roar Bakken for setting up this interview and
getting me and my music over to Norway. |

June 18, 2001
Running Time - 41:38
Recorded direct from Sound Board by House Engineer on cassette.
Transferred and Mastered to Compact Disc.
Thoughts on the Show:
This was the last night of a nine-show tour I was doing with Southside
Johnny and The Jukes. The show was pre-sold out for weeks and the venue
was packed when I walked out on stage. What I remember most was the
audience (about 1,100) being with me from the first note of the first
song. They made me feel comfortable and they rewarded me with an encore.
It was a great way to end the tour and made me look forward to my next
return to Amsterdam. |

June 17, 2001

Thoughts on the Show:
It was Father's Day and not being a Dad yet I noticed how much some of
the Jukes missed their kids back home in the States during our
conversation at dinner. When I walked out on stage that night, the
concert hall wasn't half-filled yet but the people who were there were
great. By the end of my set the venue was almost filled and what I
remember most was the incredible light show that the venue had. The best
I have seen at the Theater level so far in my experiences and I was
pleasantly surprised that the lighting director gave me full use of its
power. |

The Oakdale Theater
Wallingford, Connecticut
August 3, 2001
Running Time: 38:34
Recorded direct from Sound Board by House Engineer on cassette.
Transferred and Mastered to Compact Disc.
Thoughts on the Show:
The Oakdale Theater is a 4,800-seat venue and completely state of the
art. Just a real pleasure to sing in. I was the support artist this
evening for Huey Lewis & The News. There were about 3,000 people in
attendance for this show and the best part was that you could hear a pin
drop during my performance which was a great compliment on the
audience's part. What I remember most was my set running 10 minutes
longer than it should have and while the audience was cheering loudly as
I stepped back through the curtain, I was greeted by the Stage Manager
who asked me, in a very terse way, "Hey Joe, did your watch break?" Ah,
the price of fame :-) |

The Bottom Line
New York, NY
February 27, 1999 (Second Show 10pm)
Running Time: 61:51
Recorded by Brian Higgins live in the Club on Digital Audio Tape.
Mastered and transferred to Compact Disc
Thoughts on the Show:
I'll start with what I remember most: The Encore. The Stage Manager told
me that openers hardly ever get encores at The Bottom Line and I
remember feeling some sort of electricity at that point as we walked
back up the stairs for our Encore. I knew how many of my heroes/idols
had played there and I wanted to do ourselves proud. Many thanks to Joe
Grushecky and The Houserockers for letting us use their equipment that
night. |

Hooligans/Cheers
Long Branch, New Jersey
February 26, 1999
Running Time: 62:03
Recorded by Brian Higgins live in the club on Digital Audio Tape.
Mastered and transferred to Compact Disc
Thoughts on the Show:
I remember the club being very hot and crowded like it was a July summer
night instead of a February winter night. The stage is a small one and
we were playing as a six-piece-with-organ for these weekend shows so
that made the stage even smaller and tighter. There are two things that
happen in these conditions. Either you are too cramped to play or there
is just enough room and you play real well cause you can hear and feel
each member of the band just right. I'm pretty sure that is what
happened on this night. |

Summerfest
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
July 4, 2001
Running Time: 76:45
Recorded direct from Sound Board by House Engineer on cassette.
Transferred and Mastered to Compact Disc.
Thoughts on the Show:
This was either our 7th or 8th year in a row playing Summerfest on or
around the July 4th holiday. From performing at Summerfest over the
years I cannot separate Independence Day and being at this great
festival. It's actually the largest music festival in America and spans
10 days and brings in over one million people. Lots of beer, lots of
bratwurst and mostly, lots of great music. What I remember most from
this day was that it was going to be a great day of music as Tom Petty
and The Heartbreakers were playing at the Marcus Amphitheater, Steve
Earle and The Dukes were at The Harley Davidson Stage with Mary Chapin
Carpenter. Just a great day of American music. |
